Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met and then transferred to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. Stay two nights in Johannesburg.
Meet at the hotel after breakfast for your full day exploration of Soweto. In Soweto (SOuth WEstern TOwnship), you will see a fascinating contrast to Sandton and Rosebank in the north east. Highlights of this tour included: a fascinating glimpse of bustling neighbourhood life; two Nobel Prize winners previous residences; the Hector Peterson Memorial & Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Guests will also go an a guided tour of the Hector Pieterson museum where they will embark on a journey of discovery of the racial segregation experienced by millions of South Africans just over a decade ago. The Soweto uprising, the history of the ANC, solitary confinement of political prisoners and the birth of a new democratic country are detailed. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then visit the Apartheid Museum showcasing the story of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. An architectural consortium comprising several leading architectural firms, conceptualized the design of the museum on a seven-hectare site. The museum is a superb example of design, space and landscape offering the international community a unique South African experience.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then meet and transfer to the airport for your flight to Hoedspruit where you will be met and then transferred to your lodge for check-in. In the afternoon, guests will depart on their game drive on an open 4x4 safari vehicle accompanied by an experienced and knowledgeable ranger & tracker.
Guests will get an early morning wake up call to go on an exciting early morning game drive. There are also many other species to be seen, large and small, as well as fascinating plants and colourful birds. Stop halfway through the morning game drive for hot drinks and rusks from the Landrover snack box and return at around 9am for breakfast. Enjoy the rest of the morning and mid afternoon at your leisure. In the afternoon guests will depart with the same ranger/tracker team for the day’s second African bush safari. Enjoy a sundowner drink along the way (not included), and get out of the vehicle to stretch your legs and watch the sun go down. As darkness descends it’s time to return to the safety of the landrover and let the tracker scan the landscape with a spotlight picking out the glinting eyes of nocturnal animals.
Depart on your last morning game drive before checking out of the lodge. Depart the lodge and commence touring of the Panorama Route en-route to White River. The Panorama Route in Mpumalanga is best known for its cultural heritage and its dramatic landscapes. Offering a vast array of exciting options for the visitor, the Panorama Route hosts some of the best adrenalin enhancing adventures in the country as well as some more placid pastimes. One of the major highlights of the region is the Blyde River Canyon Reserve, home to spectacular wildlife and birdlife and some of the best views in South Africa. The Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon of its kind in the world. Situated on the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga is God’s Window. Just one look down and you will begin to understand why it is called "God's Window". Stop for lunch en route (own account) and then check-in to your hotel in the town of Hazyview.
After breakfast, transfer to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your flight to George via Johannesburg. On arrival in George, you will be met and greeted and then driven to your hotel in Knysna. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure
Depart on a full day of exploration visiting the Knysna Elephant Park, Monkeyland, and the Birds of Eden.
Enjoy a full day Featherbed Eco Experience. The Featherbed Nature Reserve is a prime example of eco-tourism and in order to protect the splendour of the area’s natural beauty. Your Featherbed eco-experience starts with a 25-minute ferry cruise. Your local guide on board will share fascinating tales about the Lagoon, the early shipping industry and oyster cultivation. On arrival at the Reserve, visitors can enjoy a drive to the top of the Western Head in a 4 x 4 unimog vehicle with trailers, stopping at a magnificent view point en route. Here unsurpassed views of the Lagoon, mountains and Knysna can be enjoyed, whilst our knowledgeable guides explain the history and ecology of the Reserve. After the drive, your specialist guide will take you on an optional 2.2 kilometer downhill walk, and thereafter return on ferry back to land.
After breakfast, check out and prepare for your exploration to Oudtshoorn. Visit the Cango Caves which are among the biggest stalagmite formations in the world. One can go for extensive subterranean walks in the widely branching caves. Some of the sandstone formations are even colourfully illuminated. Stop at an Ostrich Farm and then continue onward to your hotel for check-in. The evening is at your leisure.
Depart via the scenic Route 62 to Cape Town, and further enjoy a wine tasting in Stellenbosch. The road follows winding and spectacular mountain passes that slowly unfold before your eyes, leading to lush green valleys hosting crystal streams and framed by the distorted geological shapes and colours of rock faces dating from hundreds of millions of years ago. The main highway traversing this fascinating land, Route 62, is reputed to be the longest wine route in the world. The Stellenbosch Wine Route was the first in South Africa, founded in 1971. It offers a sampling of award winning wines whilst exploring this famous and beautiful wine producing area. Stellenbosch consists of tree lined streets and historical architecture. After enjoying the afternoon in the winelands, you will continue to Cape Town where you will check-in for your three night stay.
You will travel via the 12 Apostles to Hout Bay and on to Chapman’s Peak (dependant on the road being open) – one of the region’s most dramatic mountain drives offering amazing panoramic views over the city and environs. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, established in 1939 to protect 7750 ha of indigenous flora and fauna. The reserve comes to an end at majestic Cape Point. Situated at the junction of two of earth's most contrasting water masses - the cold Benguela current on the West Coast and the warm Agulhas current on the East Coast, the Cape of Good Hope is popularly perceived as the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. Guests can take the funicular (optional), to a vantage point offering amazing views of the ocean. Thereafter travel to Simon's Town where you will be able to visit a colony of African Jackass Penguins. You will then continue to the Kirstensbosch Botanical Gardens. Return to your hotel for the evening at your leisure.
Enjoy an informative Cape Town city tour. Highlights of this half day tour include a visit up Table Mountain on the cableway, where the varying flora and fauna will be explained (weather permitting), the Malay Quarter, city centre and Company Gardens, and time permitting visit the South African Museum, and then have photographic opportunities of Table Mountain from Table Bay. Afterwards, return to your hotel and have the rest of the day at your leisure.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and at the appointed time, meet your local guide for your transportation to the airport for your departure flight.
