Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be met in the arrivals area by your local guide holding a name-board. After a warm welcome and brief introduction, take a private airport transfer to your hotel for assistance with check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to rest up for the following days activities.
Your first full day in China’s capital introduces you to the world’s largest city square, Tian’anmen Square, to the north of the Forbidden City, before entering this large Imperial Palace, once the seat of power for nearly 500 years during the Ming & Qing dynasties. The landscaped gardens, historic artifacts, and nearly 10,000 rooms captivate you in what is now called the Palace Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and some time to explore at leisure. Later, Beijing’s hutong neighbourhoods lined by traditional courtyard homes will be explored by pedicab before a walking tour to discover the lakeside neighbourhood of Houhai. Today’s tour also includes a visit to the National Museum.
Depart the city for your discovery of the Great Wall today. Your guide will provide narrative to the visit followed by time for time to explore at your leisure. When you return to the city, visit the Summer Palace, another of China’s many UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Enjoy a morning tour of the Temple of Heaven, the location where Ming & Qing Emperors went to pray annually for good harvest. The Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty and is famous for its elegance and symmetry. Later, take a flight to Yichang, where you will be met and then transferred to the cruise pier to board the river cruise ship.
Early this morning, depart Yichang passing the eastern part of Xiling Gorge. Arrive at Yangjiawan Pier where you will visit the Three Gorges Dam Project. Later this afternoon, pass through the Three Gorges Dam shiplocks.
Awake to the wonders of the Yangtze River. Continue cruising through the Wu Gorge, and then pass through the Qutang Gorge, whose cliffs rise more than 1,000 meters above the river. In Badong, disembark for the excursion to the Daning River Small Gorges or the Shennong Stream ferry and sampan tour where you will see the amazing hanging coffins and hear Tuja Songs.
Slowly cruise down the Yangtze River and marvel at its natural beauty. Sail past ancient villages and historic sites before reaching Fengdu, Shibaozhai or Wanzhou for today’s shore excursion.
This morning, arrive in Chongqing. Upon disembarkation of your ship, meet your local guide and then transfer to the airport for your flight to Xian. On arrival in Xian, be warmly greeted and then transfer to the city for a walk along the historic City Wall and a stroll through the Big Wild Goose Pagoda square. Stay two nights in Xian.
After breakfast, head to the extraordinary site of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Not discovered until 1974 by local farmers, the Warriors are among the most fascinating discoveries of modern day. Tour the site with insightful commentary before enjoying a dumpling banquet lunch featuring dumplings of all shapes & sizes. Later, take a walk through the Muslim quarter and visit the Great Mosque. Today’s tour concludes as you step back in time for a Tang Dynasty dinner & show.
After breakfast at the hotel and before flying onward to Hangzhou, tour the underground Hanyangling Museum - The Tomb of Emperor Jingdi & his empress Wang of the Western Han Dynasty. Exhibits include pottery wares, terra cotta sculptures, and jewelry. The Hanyangling Museum is the country's first and only underground museum. After visiting the museum, transfer to the airport for your flight to Hangzhou. On arrival, you will be met and then transferred to the hotel for assistance with check-in. This evening, enjoy the renowned Impressions of West Lake Show. Stay one night in Hangzhou.
This morning, enjoy a boat ride on the breathtaking and scenic West Lake. Then visit Lin Yin Temple, noted as one of the ten most famous Buddhist temples in China. Later, take some time to explore historic Qinghefang Street and then travel to Suzhou and check-in to your hotel. The evening is at your leisure. Stay one night in Suzhou.
Take a boat ride on the Grand Canal in the old town, visit the impressive Suzhou Museum, and take a walk through a classical Chinese garden before heading to Shanghai where you'll check-in to your hotel for your two nights stay. The evening is at your leisure.
This morning, meet your guide and depart for your full day Shanghai city tour. Highlights include a visit to the Yuyuan Garden and bazaar, a tour of the spectacular Shanghai Museum, a large museum containing ancient Chinese art, and a walk about Shanghai's Old Street. Stroll along the Bund and take a tour of the ultra-modern Lujiazui district
After breakfast at the hotel and at the appropriate time you will be met in the lobby and then transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
