Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be met in the arrivals area by your local guide holding a name-board. After a warm welcome and brief introduction, take a private airport transfer to your hotel for assistance with check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to rest up for the following days activities.
Your first full day in China’s capital introduces you to the world’s largest city square, Tian’anmen Square, to the north of the Forbidden City, before entering this large Imperial Palace, once the seat of power for nearly 500 years during the Ming & Qing dynasties. The landscaped gardens, historic artifacts, and nearly 10,000 rooms captivate you in what is now called the Palace Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and some time to explore at leisure. Later, Beijing’s hutong neighbourhoods lined by traditional courtyard homes will be explored by pedicab before a walking tour to discover the lakeside neighbourhood of Houhai. Today’s tour also includes a visit to the National Museum.
Depart the city for your discovery of the Great Wall today. Your guide will provide narrative to the visit followed by time for time to explore at your leisure. When you return to the city, visit the Summer Palace, another of China’s many UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
This morning, head to the Temple of Heaven, famous for its elegance and symmetry, the Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. Enjoy a guided tour of the temple and then fly to Xian. On your arrival, you will be met and then transferred to the Tomb of Jingdi for a guided tour before arriving at the hotel for check-in. This evening, enjoy a dumpling banquet dinner.
After breakfast, head to the extraordinary site of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Not discovered until 1974 by local farmers, the Warriors are among the most fascinating discoveries of modern day. Tour the site with insightful commentary before enjoying a dumpling banquet lunch featuring dumplings of all shapes & sizes. Later, take a walk through the Muslim quarter and visit the Great Mosque. Today’s tour concludes as you step back in time for a Tang Dynasty dinner & show.
This morning, depart with your guide to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Institute for an up close & personal look at China’s native bear. Later, visit the Wenshu Temple, and take some time with your guide to explore Kuan Zhai Lane, or old Chengdu, where you can sip tea at local teahouses, taste authentic Sichuan snacks, explore well preserved buildings, as well as see some of Chengdu’s modernization with a combination of Chinese & western culture. During your tour, you will also visit the area around Jinli Street and Renmin Park.
Drive to Leshan to see the Grand Buddha. On arrival, get close to the top of the mountain to view the full picture of the Giant Buddha before heading downhill to take a cruise on the Min River which provides further views of this wonderful image. In the late afternoon, return to Chengdu for the evening free at your leisure.
Fly to Lijiang in Yunnan Province and meet for transportation to the hotel for some time at your leisure, and then head out on a guided walking tour of the old town. Stay two nights in Lijiang.
Head to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and see picturesque Yak Meadow. Take a cable car to the top of the mountain for commanding views. Later, enjoy the renowned Impressions of Ljiang show, a performance unlike any other showcasing the traditions and lifestyles of those ethnic to the region. Marvel at the Baisha Fresco, and Shuhe Village, and see the Black Dragon Pool Park, the former residence of the Austrian-American explorer, botanist, and linguist Joseph Rock, and more on your full day out.
Take a day trip to see the beautiful Tiger Leaping Gorge with opportunities to further explore by hiking along the trails. During your tour, stop at first bend on the Yangtze River, and visit the scenic Shigu Village (Stone Drum Town). Return to Ljiiang and to the airport for your flight to Kunming. On arrival in Kunming, meet for transportation to the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, drive 100 kms (approx. 3 hrs) to the famous “Stone Forest”, consisting of 80 hectares of bizarre-shaped limestone cliffs created over 280 million years ago. Walk through the Stone Forest and marvel at the natural stone formations. In the late afternoon, return to Kunming for a visit to the Green Lake Park and a stroll through the bustling Bird & Flower Market. This evening, watch the cultural Dynamic Yunnan show.
Fly to Shanghai and take a stroll through hip and historic Xintiandi district before a leisurely cruise on the Huangpu River to admire the city skyline at night. Stay two nights in Shanghai.
This morning, meet your guide and depart for your full day Shanghai city tour. Highlights include a visit to the Yuyuan Garden and bazaar, a tour of the spectacular Shanghai Museum, a large museum containing ancient Chinese art, and a walk about Shanghai's Old Street. Stroll along the Bund and take a tour of the ultra-modern Lujiazui district.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and at the appointed time your guide will meet you in the hotel and then transfer you to the airport.
Day 3: Climb the Great Wall of China at the Mutianyu Pass.
Day 11: Discover Lijiang and the Tiger Leaping Gorge.
