Upon arrival in Shanghai, you will be met in the arrivals area by your local guide holding a name-board. After a warm welcome and brief introduction, take a private airport transfer to your hotel for assistance with check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to rest up for the following days activities. Stay three nights in Shanghai.
This morning, meet your guide and depart for your full day Shanghai city tour. Highlights include a visit to the Yuyuan Garden and bazaar, a tour of the spectacular Shanghai Museum, a large museum containing ancient Chinese art, and a walk about Shanghai's Old Street. Stroll along the Bund and take a tour of the ultra-modern Lujiazui district.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before meeting your guide in the lobby for your half-day tour to Zhujiajiao, a water-town outside of Shanghai. The town is an interesting contrast to the modern wonders of Shanghai with its ancient buildings, stone bridges, and meandering river-ways. After sightseeing, return to Shanghai for the afternoon at your leisure.
Fly to Chengdu, located in Sichuan province. On arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel for check-in. Later, take some time with your guide to explore Kuan Zhai Lane, or old Chengdu, where you can sip tea at local teahouses, taste authentic Sichuan snacks, explore well preserved buildings, as well as see some of Chengdu’s modernization with a combination of Chinese & western culture. During your tour, you will also visit the area around Jinli Street and Renmin Park. Stay two nights in Chengdu.
This morning, depart with your guide to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Institute for an up close & personal look at China’s native bear. Later, explore the Wenshu Temple, and visit the grounds around the thatched cottage of the legendary Tang Dynasty poet, Du Fu. This evening, enjoy a Sichuan cultural show and a traditional hot pot dinner.
Meet at the hotel for transportation to the airport for your flight to Lhasa, Tibet. On arrival, meet your guide and transfer to the hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Stay three nights in Lhasa.
Enjoy a full day tour of Lhasa visiting the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Monastery, founded in 1419, and Norbu Lingka, the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama.
Visit the iconic Potala Palace, and the 7th century Jokhang Monastery. Take a tour of the Tibet Museum, and enjoy some leisure time wandering around bustling Barkhor Street. This evening, enjoy dinner accompanied by a Tibetan folklore show.
Today, you'll fly to Xian where you'll be met for transportation to the hotel for some time at your leisure. This evening, step back in time as you enjoy a Tang Dynasty dinner & dance performance. Stay two nights in Xian.
Head to the extraordinary site of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Not discovered until 1974 by local farmers, the Warriors are among the most fascinating discoveries of modern day. Tour the site with insightful commentary before enjoying a dumpling lunch followed by a walk through the Muslim quarter and a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the lively square nearby.
Visit Xian's city wall this morning before your transportation to the train station for your high-speed train journey to Beijing. On arrival in Beijing, meet and transfer to the hotel for check-in and the evening free at your leisure.
Your first full day in China’s capital introduces you to the world’s largest city square, Tian’anmen Square, to the north of the Forbidden City, before entering this large Imperial Palace, once the seat of power for nearly 500 years during the Ming & Qing dynasties. The landscaped gardens, historic artifacts, and nearly 10,000 rooms captivate you in what is now called the Palace Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and some time to explore at leisure. Later, Beijing’s hutong neighbourhoods lined by traditional courtyard homes will be explored by pedicab before a walking tour to discover the lakeside neighbourhood of Houhai. Today’s tour also includes a visit to the National Museum. Your dinner will be a serving of delectable Peking duck.
Depart the city for your discovery of the Great Wall today. Your guide will provide narrative to the visit followed by time for time to explore at your leisure. When you return to the city, visit the Summer Palace, another of China’s many UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
This morning, head to the Temple of Heaven, famous for its elegance and symmetry, the Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. You'll take time to explore with your guide before returning to the hotel. Transportation to the airport is included today.
Day 7: Discover the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet.
Day 12: Take a walking tour of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and explore the hutongs by pedicab.
