Depart for a morning tour of the city that will unveil the beauty and charm of the old and new Kuala Lumpur. Admire the distinct skyline of fine Moorish architecture and the modern edifices such as the Petronas Twin Towers. Kuala Lumpur or otherwise known as the “Garden City of Lights”, notwithstanding the brisk progress has kept her historical foundations and luscious greenery. Today’s tour highlights include a photo-stop at the Petronas Twin Towers, Handicraft Centre, Cocoa Boutique, King’s Palace (Photo-stop), National Monument, National Museum, National Mosque (Photo-stop) and Sultan Abdul Samad Building. In the afternoon, we will proceed for a visit to the countryside. Also stop for an insightful visit to a pewter factory, and a batik factory, and visit the Batu Caves – the holy, sacred cave temple for Hindus (except during Thaipusam Day in January/February).
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and depart for the Cameron Highlands, located at 1542 meters above sea level and noted for its tea plantations and cool temperatures. Stop on the way for a visit to see the cottage industry of basket weaving followed by the Lata Iskandar Waterfall and a native settlement. Be immersed in the cool, crisp air of the Cameron Highlands with its wonderful scenery. Your tour of the highlands consists of the tea plantation, the marketplace and butterfly farm. Stay two nights in the Cameron Highlands.
Today’s tour will take you on visits to local fruit and vegetable farms, a Butterfly garden, a Buddhist Temple, and more. A short trek through the forest will end with your visit to the tea plantation – Boh Tea, Malaysia’s biggest tea grower. Experience the factory tour and watch the processing of black tea, and sample the different kinds of tea before high-tea at an old Scottish Inn. The rest of the day is at your leisure to relax at your accommodation or to explore independently.
Begin your day with a pleasant drive northwards to Ipoh – ‘the city of millionaires’ which made its fortune from the rich tin mines of Kinta Valley – the heart of tin dredging in Malaysia. En route, you will visit Kellies Castle, built by the Scottish rubber tycoon, and the famous Cave Temples in Ipoh, followed by lunch at a local restaurant. Travel North to Kuala Kangsar and see the unique Ubudiah Mosque, a magnificent building with a golden dome, and the Palace of the Sultan of Perak. Continuing onward and you will cross the Penang Bridge (spanning 13.5km – this is the longest bridge in Asia and third in the world) into the island of Penang. Check into your hotel located in the city and have the evening at your leisure.
Explore the streets of George Town and its rich heritage. Admire the intricate carving, woodwork and porcelain décor of Khoo Kongsi, established in 1835. Visit Yap Kongsi and Ciji Temple, a clan association built in 1924, a Taoist Temple dedicated to the Nan`an patron deity, and the Hock Teik Cheng Sin Temple, which is the Tua Pek Kong temple and Hokkien secret society headquarters from the mid-19th century. Later, you will get to see another Hokkien Clan temple, Cheah Kongsi, founded in 1820 and built in 1858. Last but not least, continue to visit the world renowned Pinang Peranakan Mansion. Baba & Nyonyas were a prominent community of acculturated Chinese unique to this part of the world, which houses over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectible items of the era. Afterwards, return to the hotel for the afternoon at your leisure. In the evening you will be picked up for a night tour. The city comes alive at night with blazes of lights and street peddlers, and as Penang is famous for its local cuisine, your evening will begin with local cuisine. After dinner, you will be taken on a short trishaw ride to see the nightlife from an authentic mode of transport.
