Upon arrival in Delhi, you will be met and then driven to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.
Set out on a full day tour taking in the city’s key sites. Head to Old Delhi and visit Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, and then board your rickshaws for a ride through the narrow lanes and historical alleys that weave their way in and around Chandni Chowk. Continue to a Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) and see the community kitchen where thousands of worshippers are fed round the clock, and then head to New Delhi for an orientation drive passed the Presidential Palace, the India Gate, Parliament House, and other impressive buildings. The day will conclude with a visit to the towering stone tower of Qutub Minar, and the tomb for Emperor Humayun.
Drive via the expressway to the city of Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. In the afternoon, visit Agra Fort, the seat and stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive generations. Take a guided tour and have some time to explore the sprawling grounds at your leisure. Head to the hotel and have the evening free at your leisure.
Take a guided tour of the Taj Mahal at sunrise, and then have ample time to take in the site, grab some photos, and wander about at your leisure, as you soak in one of the world’s great wonders. Afterwards, depart for Jaipur, stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted red sandstone city providing an outstanding example of Mughal architecture built in the late 16th century. On your arrival in Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, check-in and have the evening to yourself.
Visit the Amber Fort, one of Rajasthan’s most impressive, and then head back to the city for a photo-stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) and an in-depth visit at the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar Observatory. Later, walk through the old city and immerse yourself in the bustle of the colorful local market.
Drive to Pushkar and check-in to your hotel. Pushkar is an ancient settlement that dates back to the 4th century and is located at the base of a hill in a valley encircled by the Aravalli Hills in central Rajasthan. On the banks of the lake in Pushkar, you’ll see over 50 ghats and close to 500 white-washed temples, ashrams, and dharamsalas, giving visitors an interesting perspective of this small city. With your guide, take a tour around the lake ghats and the Brahma Temple.
Enjoy some time free to relax, and then depart through Rajasthan to the city of Jodhpur where you will check-in to your hotel. You may wish to explore at your leisure, or simply use today to rest, use hotel facilities, and absorb your past week in India. You will stay two nights in Jodhpur.
Take a morning excursion to the Thar Desert for a visit to a Bishnoi village. Learn of the local weavers, potters, and tribal shepherds, whom are the Bishnois, as well as their ancient traditions and unique lifestyle, while exploring a picturesque rural village. Return to Jodhpur for a visit to one of the largest forts in the country Mehrangarh Fort, arguably Rajasthan’s best. From the fort, you will have commanding views of the city as you explore the many rooms, museum pieces, treasures, and more. Head back to the hotel, en route stopping at Jaswant Thada, a pillared marble memorial to a popular Jodhpur ruler from the late 1800’s.
Depart for Udaipur across the Aravalli Hills taking in the scenery of rural Rajasthani life. En route, stop at the White Marble Jain Temples in Ranakpur, surrounded by forests with monkeys abounding in the courtyard. You’ll take some time to explore this important pilgrim center for the Jain community before continuing on to Udaipur, a beautiful city on the shores of Lake Pichola, and checking into your hotel.
Take a full day to explore the city. Highlights include the majestic City Palace, standing on a crest overlooking Lake Pichola, the three-storey Jagdish Temple, the Sahelion-ki-Bari garden, and a boat ride on Lake Pichola. In the afternoon, take a guided heritage walk along the ghats and see historic temples on the banks of the lake. Stop at an ancient stepwell, join a family at their private residence for a cup of tea, see spice shops, walk the lanes where silversmiths and gold makers are hard at work, and see the bustling markets of Udaipur as you come across vegetable, oil, and bamboo markets, before returning to the hotel.
Enjoy the morning free at your leisure, and then meet for transportation to the airport for your flight to either Delhi or Mumbai where you can connect with your international flight home. Extensions to further explore India are available on an privately guided basis, please enquire.
