Upon arrival at the Casablanca International Airport, you’ll be met for transportation to your hotel. On route to the hotel, you’ll take some time for a brief orientation tour around the city.
Meet your driver-guide in the hotel lobby and depart overland towards Rabat. On arrival, embark on a city tour which highlights Rabat's cultural influences and the relics of its Moorish past. A summary of highlights includes the mausoleum dedicated to Mohamed V, the Oudaya Kasbah, which is built on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and a delightful Moroccan garden. En route, stop for lunch (own expense) in the village of Moulay Bousselham. If time permits, stop at a small-town from the Roman era called Asilah. Later, continue the drive along the Atlantic coast to Tangier where you will check-in to your hotel.
Today we explore Tangier, an incredibly unique city with many landmarks. Flanked by a row of French colonial–era buildings, stop to see the Mendoubia gardens, and then head to a peak of the central hill to see an engraved stone monument which displays the speech King Mohammed V gave to the French asking for Moroccan independence in 1947. You’ll visit the Marshan district and its Roman tombs and admire the Moresque interiors of St Andrews church, and then cross the fish market where fresh fish is sold at auction to arrive to the Jewish cemetery, dominating the sea front. Head to the American legation, the first American property to ever open outside the United States, and then descend onto Petit Socco and have a mint tea at Cafe Tingis, a favorite with the Beat Generation. Take a short drive outside Tangier where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean to Cap Spartel and the legendary cave of Hercules. Enjoy some free time at the beach then return back to your hotel for the evening free at your leisure.
Depart by road to Chefchaouen. En route, you will explore Tetouan, one of the two major ports of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea, famous for the beautiful patios and palaces of Moresque heritage. If time permits, visit the Ethnographical Museum to admire the glory of its Moresque Heritage. You’ll continue to Chefchaouen through the dramatic gorges of Oued Laou. Upon arrival, explore Chefchaouen, quite likely the most charming village in Morocco with its Medina, Bab el Ansar and the famed Ras el Maa waterfall, where a short walk takes you to Rif Sebbanine, the laundry district and its 15th century mosque.
Drive to Ouazzane, the holy city for the Moroccan Jewish population, and then continue the journey overland to explore the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa. Later, visit the whitewashed town of Moulay Idriss, and then head off to the Imperial city of Meknes, the one-time home of the Moroccan sultanate. The king's tomb sits at the heart of what remains of the original imperial city, flanked by the magnificent Bab el- Mansour. Afterwards, continue to Fez to check-in to your hotel.
This morning, depart Fez. Pass through many amazing cities and villages, the first of which is Ifrane, nicknamed "Morocco's Switzerland," a charming ski town populated by European-style chalets. Continue on to Midelt, which serves as the commercial center of a large agricultural hinterland. You will have some free time in Midelt, before you continue your journey through the dramatic Ziz Gorge to arrive in Erfoud. This evening, dinner is included at the hotel.
After breakfast, a 4x4 vehicle will be waiting for you to continue your adventure by heading towards the dunes of Erg Chebbi. En route, visit the villages in the surroundings area and then continue to Rissani and visit one of the best traditional markets in the Sahara. The dunes of Erg Chebbi are a strikingly strange natural formation. Upon arrival at the camp you will witness the sunset over the desert dunes and be astounded by the peace and calm as well as the changing colors of the landscape. This evening, get onto the back of a camel and venture into the desert for a chance to see arguably one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Traverse the golden sands of the Sahara until you reach a perfect viewing spot for one of nature’s greatest shows. Enjoy your dinner under a tent this evening.
Today you’ll drive to Tinghir and the Todra gorges - the highest & narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here, both the Todra and Dades Rivers have carved out cliff-sided canyons on their final 25-mile stretch through the mountains, leaving behind this series of reliefs and etches in the rock. After lunch (on your own), drive through the Dades Valley with its majestic sand castles and incredible rock formations. You’ll catch a spectacular view of a vast valley dotted with small oases and hundreds of ancient fortifications. Continue to Skoura, a quiet little village speckled with palm tree groves, Skoura is surrounded by acres of palm groves. This is where we find Kasbah Amridil that stands out from the rest. Then we drive to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight.
