   DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrival in Shanghai

Upon arrival in Shanghai, you will be met in the arrivals area by your local guide holding a name-board. After a warm welcome, take a private airport transfer to your hotel for assistance with check-in. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure.

Day 2 – Shanghai

This morning, meet your guide and depart for your full day Shanghai city tour. Highlights include a visit to the Yuyuan Garden and bazaar, a tour of the spectacular Shanghai Museum, a large museum containing ancient Chinese art, and a walk about Shanghai's Old Street. Stroll along the Bund and take a tour of the ultra-modern Lujiazui district and Xintiandi neighbourhood.

Day 3 – Shanghai & Zhujiajiao

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before meeting your guide in the lobby for your half-day tour to Zhujiajiao, a water-town outside of Shanghai. The town is an interesting contrast to the modern wonders of Shanghai with its ancient buildings, stone bridges, and meandering river-ways. After sightseeing, return to Shanghai for the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 4 – Shanghai - Chengdu

Fly to Chengdu and visit the Old Town with your guide and have some time free at your leisure. During your tour, you will also visit the area round Jinli Street and Renmin Park.

Day 5 – Chengdu

Visit the Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding, the Wenshu Temple, and the grounds of the historic thatched cottage of legendary Tangy Dynasty poet, Du Fu. This evening, enjoy a Sichuan cultural show and a traditional hot pot dinner.

Day 6 – Chengdu - Lhasa

Upon arrival in Lhasa, you will be met in the arrivals area by your local guide holding a name-board. After a warm welcome and brief introduction, take a private airport transfer to your hotel for assistance with check-in. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to rest up for the following days activities.

Day 7 - Lhasa

Enjoy a full day tour of Lhasa visiting the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Monastery, founded in 1419, and NorbuLingka, the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama.

Day 8 – Lhasa

Today, visit the iconic Potala Palace, built in 637AD, and the 7th century Jokhang Monastery. Take a tour of the Tibet Museum, and enjoy some leisure time wandering around bustling Barkhor Street. This evening, enjoy a Tibetan folklore show.

Day 9 – Lhasa - Xian

Fly to Xian and have some time at your leisure before your Tang Dynasty inspired dinner and show this evening.

Day 10 – Xian

Visit the extraordinary site of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Not discovered until 1974 by local farmers, the Warriors are among the most fascinating discoveries of modern day. Tour the site with insightful commentary before returning to the city to take a walk through the old quarter and to see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. A dumpling banquet dinner is included this evening.

Day 11 – Xian - Beijing

This morning, visit the historic City Wall in Xian and then take the high speed train to Beijing where you will check-in for your three night stay.

Day 12 – Beijing & City Tour

Your first full day in China’s capital introduces you to the world’s largest city square, Tian’anmen Square, to the north of the Forbidden City, before entering this large Imperial Palace, once the seat of power for nearly 500 years during the Ming & Qing dynasties. The landscaped gardens, historic artifacts, and nearly 10,000 rooms captivate you in what is now called the Palace Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and some time to explore at leisure. Later, Beijing’s hutong neighbourhoods lined by traditional courtyard homes will be explored by pedicab before visiting the Temple of Heaven.

Day 13 – Beijing & Great Wall

Depart the city for your discovery of the Great Wall today. Your guide will provide narrative to the visit followed by time for time to explore at your leisure. When you return to the city, visit the Summer Palace, another of China’s many UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Day 14 – Beijing - Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and at the appointed time your guide will meet you in the hotel and then transfer you to the airport.
