Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be met in the arrivals area by your local guide holding a name-board. After a warm welcome, take a private airport transfer to your hotel for assistance with check-in. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure.
Your first full day in China’s capital introduces you to the world’s largest city square, Tian’anmen Square, to the north of the Forbidden City, before entering this large Imperial Palace, once the seat of power for nearly 500 years during the Ming & Qing dynasties. The landscaped gardens, historic artifacts, and nearly 10,000 rooms captivate you in what is now called the Palace Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and some time to explore at leisure. Later, Beijing’s hutong neighbourhoods lined by traditional courtyard homes will be explored by pedicab before returning to the hotel for the evening at your leisure.
Depart the city for your discovery of the Great Wall today. Your guide will provide narrative to the visit followed by time for time to explore at your leisure. When you return to the city, visit the Summer Palace, another of China’s many UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
This morning, head to the Temple of Heaven, famous for its elegance and symmetry, the Temple was built in 1420 A.D. during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifice to Heaven. Enjoy a guided tour of the temple and then transfer to the train station for your express train journey to Datong where you will check-in for your one night stay.
Visit the Yungang Grottoes and admire the impressive Buddhist Cave Art from the 5th and 6th centuries and travel by road to Taiyuan stopping en route to visit the Hanging Monastery built into the side of a cliff face. This evening, check-in for your one night stay in Taiyuan.
Take a guided tour of the old town of Pingyao and then take the high speed train to the city of Xian, home of the Terra Cotta Warriors.
Visit the extraordinary site of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Not discovered until 1974 by local farmers, the Warriors are among the most fascinating discoveries of modern day. Tour the site with insightful commentary before returning to the city to take a walk through the old quarter and to see the City Wall. This evening, enjoy the famous Dumpling dinner and Tang Dynasty Show.
Visit Xian's iconic Big Wild Goose Pagoda before transferring to the airport for your flight to Shanghai where will be met and transferred to the hotel.
This morning, meet your guide and depart for your full day Shanghai city tour. Highlights include a visit to the Yuyuan Garden and bazaar, a tour of the spectacular Shanghai Museum, a large museum containing ancient Chinese art, and a walk about Shanghai's Old Street. Stroll along the Bund and take a tour of the ultra-modern Lujiazui district, and take some time in the Xintiandi neighbouhood, located in the French Concession.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before meeting your guide in the lobby for your half-day tour to Zhujiajiao, a water-town outside of Shanghai. The town is an interesting contrast to the modern wonders of Shanghai with its ancient buildings, stone bridges, and meandering river-ways. After sightseeing, return to Shanghai for the afternoon at your leisure.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and at the appointed time your guide will meet you in the hotel and then transfer you to the airport.
