The town has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so this may say it all, but it truly is one of the most charming towns in Asia and almost always tops the ‘best of’ lists for those exploring through Indochina. It’s changing, not too rapidly, but get there soon.
The south of Laos is another world, and the 4,000 Islands on the Mekong River are among the most relaxing in Asia. Look for river dolphins, marvel at Wat Phou, and tie-up a hammock, this is Laos.
Laos is for the most part all countryside, with sleepy towns scattered about, but it’s these villages that leave the greatest impression as you walk among wooden stilt homes, traditionally dressed hill tribe groups, farmers plowing fields. You will never forget the Lao ‘Hello’ (Sabaidee) after just one day outside the town centers.
In the Bokeo Nature Reserve, requiring some effort to access, the Gibbon Experience is Laos’ most sought after eco-adventure. Forest, ziplines, tree house accommodation, hikes, treks, flashlights, and more sound like fun? Add this to your Laos experience.
A stay in Luang Prabang wouldn’t be complete without a night out at the night market. Boasting handicrafts, textiles and more from the neighbouring hill tribe villages, the colorful market is your go-to for shopping in Laos.
