Upon arrival in Taipei, you will be met in the arrivals area for transportation to the hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure.
Today you will have use of the 1-Day Taipei Double-Decker Sightseeing Bus ticket to explore city of Taipei at your leisure. This is a hop-on-hop-off bus. There are a couple routes to choose from which introduce you to places such as the Shilin Official Residence, National Palace Museum, National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Xinyi & Yongkang, Taipei 101, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Huashan 1914 Creative Park, and so on. The evening is free at your leisure.
This morning, you will head out of Taipei to visit the Taroko Gorge via the Suhua Highway including a photo stop at the Chinshui Cliff, the spectacular mountains rising vertically out of the ocean. You will arrive at Taroko National Park and visit the Taroko Gorge Gateway, Eternal Spring Shrine and Swallow Grotto. The Taroko National Park is Taiwan’s most diverse national park and one of the island’s top tourist destinations. The amazingly narrow Taroko Gorge is the park’s main attraction, stretching 20km, with marble walls that rise several hundred meters above the Liwu River, the canyon offers some of Taiwan’s most impressive scenery. After your visit, you’ll check-in to the hotel for the afternoon free at your leisure.
Head west on a cross island scenic mountain road with a stop at the Mt. Hehuan visitor center for a great view (elevation 3,000m). Continue onward to Sun Moon Lake. You will also visit the Wen Wu Temple with a beautiful lake view before checking in to your hotel for the evening free at your leisure.
Visit the Holy Monk Shrine, Tehua Village and Tse En Pagoda, and then head to Tainan, the ancient capital. Take a walking tour around Anping Fort and the old street. At the top of the fort is a western-style customs house that the Japanese built on the site. If you wish, you may climb up to the top of the observation tower for a great view of the An-ping area before arriving at the hotel for the night.
Visit the Chikan Tower, the site of Fort Provintia built by the Dutch in 1653. Later, you will visit the Confucius Temple and also have some time to stroll around the area. Afterwards, you’ll head to Kaohsiung to visit the biggest monastery in Taiwan, Foguanshan Monastery. See the Main Shrine and the Buddhist Museum and then have some time to explore Kaohsiung at your leisure in the evening.
Today, highlights include a visit to Dragon & Tiger Pagoda and the Spring & Autumn Pavilion. Later, drive north to Lukang to visit the Lungshan temple and market, and then transfer to the airport in Taipei in the evening for your departure flight.
