United Arab Emirates Tours: Jewel of Arabia

From the stark, dry desert landscape has grown a region where buildings stretch to the sky and some of the world’s most incredible man-made architectural achievements are gathered. Welcome to the United Arab Emirates, a collection of oil-rich states who have transformed cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi from desert villages into some of the world’s most luxurious. The hotels in Dubai are among the best in the world and its remarkable white sand beach front is its best kept secret. But Dubai also has a history, which is on full display in its ancient souks, along Dubai Creek, and at Al-Fahidi Fort. Escape into the Arabian Desert where you’ll get to see the lifestyle of the nomad, ride a camel or challenge the mountain high sand dunes in a 4x4. Abu Dhabi offers a unique history of its own, an impressive corniche and the glistening Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The lesser known Emirates hold their own allure from the museum-rich Sharjah to the beaches of Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Ajman, and the sleepy emirate of Umm Al Quwain which gives a glimpse into the pre-oil days of the Emirates. More than just Dubai, go deeper and see the emirates of the past & present.

TOP EXPERIENCES IN UNITED ARAB EMIRATES:

Desert Safari

Take a 4x4 out into the Arabian Desert for a drive through the sand dunes to a Bedouin camp for a BBQ dinner accompanied by traditional entertainment. Stand atop sand dunes marveling at the sun bouncing off the golden desert sand, try your feet at sandboarding, ride a 4-wheeler in the desert sands, or just sit and relax amongst the vastness of the Arabian desert, a great contrast from the ultra-modern skyline of Dubai not too far away. Not for everyone, this desert safari bounces up and down towering sand dunes and on uneven terrain.

Views from the Burj Khalifa in Dubai

The World’s Tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, offers unbelievable views over this desert city, the Arabian Gulf, and well beyond. Marvel at the ingenuity of the architecture and design, see an exhibit on the building’s history, and then take the world’s fastest lift to the top for a unique perspective on just how unbelievable a city this is.

Dubai Creek & the Spice Souk

Much of Dubai is glittering and modern, but a boat taxi (Abra) ride across Dubai Creek helps reign it all in and bring a bit of history into your stay. Near the creek, take in the aromas of the Spice souk, and stroll around the historic neighbourhood of Deira for a more local city-feel.

See those Architectural Marvels

From the world’s only 7-star hotel to luxe in the desert, the world’s tallest building, ornate mosques, spiraling residential towers, the Emirates Palace, and an Atlantis Resort built on a cluster of islands the shape of the globe, the country is a playground for architecture buffs and those with a simple affinity for things awesome. Stand on the beach for unimpeded views of the sail-boat designed Burj Al Arab, marvel at the sweeping design of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, or simply stand in awe of the symmetrical beauty of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the sheer beauty and creativity of some of the country’s most remarkable buildings will stand proudly alongside many of your great memories from the United Arab Emirates.

Shopping

Shopping is almost synonymous with Dubai these days, they even have a shopping festival, and the options continue to grow. From the town-sized Dubai Mall to the modern Souk Madinat Jumeirah and the Mall of the Emirates, home to an indoor ski park, and traditional souks, shopping in Dubai and the UAE satisfies even the most discerning of shoppers.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:

Climate

The UAE has year round sunshine with blue skies and very little rain. Between October & April, temperatures hover around 25-30°C, which makes this the most comfortable time to travel. The summer months are sweltering with temperatures that can increase to 45°C. Air-conditioning is everywhere from malls to hotels and public transit. Rains typically come in January.

Entry Regulations

An entry visa to the United Arab Emirates is issued upon arrival free of charge for Canadian & US citizens, and is valid for 30 days from the date of arrival. Please check with your country's Foreign Affairs office for the most up to date entry requirements. Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the expected date of your departure from the United Arab Emirates.

Currency

The official currency is the Dirham (AED).

Electricity

The current used in the United Arab Emirates is 220/240AC, 50HZ. This system may differ from the one you use at home. We suggest purchasing an adapter to take with you.

Language

The official language in the United Arab Emirates is Arabic. English is widely spoken.

Health Regulations

Vaccination certificates are not required unless coming from an infected area. For all health requirements and recommendations, travellers should check with their health authority for the most up to date information.

Shopping

As customs duties are low, luxuries are often cheaper in the UAE than in most places. Duty-free shops provide shoppers with incredibly low-priced goods at North American standards. Souks (markets) sell varied handcrafted goods, spices, jewellery and more at reasonable prices. Shopping malls and outlets are prevalent and among the world’s largest and most luxurious. Notable shopping spots include the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and the Madinat Souk Jumeirah.

Cuisine

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have a wide variety of restaurants available, as do the other 5 Emirates, but on a lesser scale. Middle Eastern, Thai, Mediterranean and everything in between can be found. Dine in Michelin starred restaurants or moderate diners with a local flare, the UAE offers a world class collection of culinary choices.
