Take a 4x4 out into the Arabian Desert for a drive through the sand dunes to a Bedouin camp for a BBQ dinner accompanied by traditional entertainment. Stand atop sand dunes marveling at the sun bouncing off the golden desert sand, try your feet at sandboarding, ride a 4-wheeler in the desert sands, or just sit and relax amongst the vastness of the Arabian desert, a great contrast from the ultra-modern skyline of Dubai not too far away. Not for everyone, this desert safari bounces up and down towering sand dunes and on uneven terrain.
The World’s Tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, offers unbelievable views over this desert city, the Arabian Gulf, and well beyond. Marvel at the ingenuity of the architecture and design, see an exhibit on the building’s history, and then take the world’s fastest lift to the top for a unique perspective on just how unbelievable a city this is.
Much of Dubai is glittering and modern, but a boat taxi (Abra) ride across Dubai Creek helps reign it all in and bring a bit of history into your stay. Near the creek, take in the aromas of the Spice souk, and stroll around the historic neighbourhood of Deira for a more local city-feel.
From the world’s only 7-star hotel to luxe in the desert, the world’s tallest building, ornate mosques, spiraling residential towers, the Emirates Palace, and an Atlantis Resort built on a cluster of islands the shape of the globe, the country is a playground for architecture buffs and those with a simple affinity for things awesome. Stand on the beach for unimpeded views of the sail-boat designed Burj Al Arab, marvel at the sweeping design of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, or simply stand in awe of the symmetrical beauty of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the sheer beauty and creativity of some of the country’s most remarkable buildings will stand proudly alongside many of your great memories from the United Arab Emirates.
Shopping is almost synonymous with Dubai these days, they even have a shopping festival, and the options continue to grow. From the town-sized Dubai Mall to the modern Souk Madinat Jumeirah and the Mall of the Emirates, home to an indoor ski park, and traditional souks, shopping in Dubai and the UAE satisfies even the most discerning of shoppers.
