Climate

India experiences four main seasons, winter from January and February, summer from March to May, rainy from to June to September and a post-monsoon period from October to December. The weather in India is typically hot during most of the year, but temperatures vary greatly depending on the region. The coolest weather, often most comfortable, is from December to February. The months between March and June are hot, dry, and dusty.

Entry Regulations

Canadian & U.S. citizens traveling to India require a visa to enter the country. Tourist visas are to be obtained prior to travel at an India Embassy, High Commission, or consulate.

Currency

The official currency is the Rupee (INR).

Electricity

The current used in India is 230AC / 50HZ. This system may differ from the one you use at home. We suggest purchasing an adapter to take with you.

Language

Two of the most common languages spoken in India are Hindi and English, but various other languages are spoken regionally.

Health Regulations

Vaccination certificates are not required unless coming from an infected area. For all health requirements and recommendations, travellers should check with their health authority for the most up to date information.

Shopping

India is a shopper’s paradise. Regional specialties and local craftspeople create various works of art. Should you be looking for carpets, silks, silverware, fabrics, leatherwork or antiques, India has you covered. Textiles remain one of India’s main industries. Of the silks, the woven brocades from Varanasi are among the most famous. Rajasthan & Chennai cottons are brilliant, block printed tunics, colorful sari’s, and pashmina shawls are also an Indian specialty. Pottery, stoneware, cooper and brassware to spices and paintings, shopping is popular pastime in India. State-run emporiums have good quality products are reasonable prices.
